The Education Development Centre
The Education Development Centre (formerly Training & Development Unit) comprises a new three storey building to accommodate staff and provide flexible meeting, conference and training facilities within an existing heritage façade.
Matthews Architects were engaged to provide comprehensive design services including collaboration with DETE, DAIS and the City of Charles Sturt and their architects to explore the master plan implications of the other components of the Education Development Centre, namely the TSOF (Technology School of the Future), PLAIN – Library Services and the future lecture theatre complex.
Flexibility and technological innovation were driving factors for the project, with an emphasis on implementing and embracing “future proofing” elements early in concept design. This included Masterplanning and provision of technological and structural allowance for possible future lecture theatres/ teaching spaces and to allow future functional changes to be accommodated.
