The refurbishment of 40 existing high-care rooms within one large building presented our client with a big challenge, to disrupt the care conditions and well-being of the existing residents and staff in the least possible way. The solution was to stage the works over a period of 16 months with each stage refurbishing 4 tightly grouped rooms, and with one pair of rooms directly above the other.

Individual unit ensuite bathrooms have been enlarged, along with bedrooms which have now incorporated former balconies into internal space. New built-in joinery, labour saving and user-friendly ceiling mounted patient lifting systems and audio visual equipment are also incorporated to improve conditions for both residents and care staff.

With each stage providing new external façade finishes to individual rooms the building has been progressively transformed externally into a newly cohesive whole.
